DIY Bean Bag Toss

May 1, 2015 By Katie Minard

This activity is awesome for kids to play with.  They are able to practice their colors, as well as hand-eye coordination.  I found this activity on Pinterest!

You will need:

Markers

Ruler

Pencil

Small and Medium Bowl

Fabric (six different colors)

Popcorn Kernels or Rice

Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

Tri-Fold

Colored Paper (to match the same colors of the material)

I was able to purchase all of the supplies at our local Walmart.

Directions:

1.  Trace six symmetrical circles on the tri-fold using the small bowl.  Cut them out with scissors or a pocket knife.

2.  Trace six circles on the colored paper using the medium bowl.  Then trace the same circles using the small bowl.  After you cut out the circles, this will create a border to go around the circles on the tri-fold.

3.  Cut and fill the colored material.  Use the hot glue gun to seal the material shut.

4.  Decorate the board.

5.  Test it out!

You’re a great parent even when……

April 10, 2015 By Katie Minard

Do your kids hide behind your knee and act shy when you ask them to talk to people?  Some kids feel uncomfortable “performing” on cue.  Instead of insisting they introduce themselves to others, give them space and allow them to feel comfortable.  Once they feel at ease with the situation, they will open up.

Meal Time Help

March 20, 2015 By Katie Minard

Kids feel important when they help their parents around the house.  Who knew when kids help set the table they are learning so many things?  In addition to sorting, counting, and placement kids are learning responsibility by having a job to do at meal time.  It also helps them develop a sense of importance to their family.  There is a natural order in things we do.  Preparing for the meal is the beginning, eating the meal is the middle, and cleaning up after the meal is the end.  When kids participate in each step, they have a clear understanding of this concept.

Books, Books, and more Books!

February 27, 2015 By Katie Minard

Reading to your kids while they are young is so important.  As your kids grow up, rent or buy books that interest them.  Some inexpensive ways to do this include borrowing books from your local library, visiting second-hand stores, going to garage sales, checking out online websites like Amazon, and taking advantage of the Scholastic Book Fairs.

Use Your Words

February 20, 2015 By Katie Minard

Parents have a natural instinct to protect their kids.  What happens when siblings get into a fight with each other?  Sometimes this situation can get really messy.  Encouraging young kids to talk about their feelings towards one another can help dissolve a heated situation.  It will also help them learn healthy ways to handle conflict and confrontation.
