When your two year old starts climbing on everything, he starts to hear the word no. If you say no too much, your child doesn’t hear it anymore. Or they might start saying no back to you. Rephrasing your statements using yes instead of no will promote healthy communication skills between you and your kids.
Your daughter asks to play outside. Instead of saying “No, you haven’t picked up your toys”, say “Yes, as soon as you pick up your toys.”
Your son asks for a cookie before dinner. Instead of saying “No, we are eating dinner soon”, say “Yes, after you are done eating your dinner.”
This simple change in your answers will make a positive change in your children’s lives.
