Time to Talk!!
Ages: 1-2 years
Get Ready: Save a few paper towel tubes for this fun game with your toddler.
Get Set: Talk through the tube and see how your child responds to the change in your normal voice. Allow your child to take a turn and see what sounds he makes.
Sit Back and Watch Your Child Go: You will observe your child’s eagerness to take turns. You will notice your child’s interest in exploring the tube and testing out other ways to use it. You will hear your child making new sounds and saying new words! You will see your child becoming more social as he interacts with this give and take game.
Want to amp up the learning? When it’s your turn, make different letter sounds through the tube. “ma-ma-ma-ma” “la-la-la-la”. Use high pitch, low pitch, sing, robot voice, say words that rhyme (hat/cat) or words that are opposites (up/down). This increases your child’s ability to discriminate sounds.
Get Creative: Each of you have your own tube and play the game “Copy Me”. When your child makes a sound/noise/giggle through the tube, say it back through your tube. Encourage your child to copy you.
As your child grows: You will notice your child playing with language and practicing new sounds. You will hear babbling turning into real words!
Your child will love: the playfulness and exploration of the world of language!
You will love: hearing your child’s voice!
