The 10 Greatest Gifts I Gave My Children
Parenting from the Heart
By Steven Vannoy
No Band-Aids, Please
What I like best about Steven Vannoy’s book, The 10 Greatest Gifts I Gave My Children is his overwhelming positive approach to parenting and his focus on giving children gifts (not material ones) that set them up for life success. Vannoy states,” We all have wonderful dreams for our families when we first see our children, whether they are born to us, chosen for adoption, or blended in through new relationships. But all too often the real world starts to get in the way as jobs, bills, schedules, to-do lists, fears, and broken promises obliterate our vision of those dreams. The “10 Greatest Gifts” process provides a way to rediscover and realize those dreams again-but with a much different twist. This book is not about creating Band-Aids for old problems. Instead, it focuses on the ways you can immediately begin to achieve your vision for your family or school or neighborhood-for today, tomorrow, and the next century.”
Steven Vannoy tells readers he gifts this book to parents, teachers, grandparents, and all concerned leaders who want to move forward with their vision of wholesome, thriving children in a growing, productive society.
Vannoy tells us on the first page what we’re going to learn about throughout his book. He is direct, to the point, and always delivers his message in a kind and caring way. His purpose for writing this book grew out of his own personal parenting journey. Early in the book, he shares with us how he drifted away from making his family a priority and the near-tragic ending that almost ensued. Thankfully, Vannoy experienced an “AHA” moment and rediscovered and returned to his solid family upbringing roots; he transformed himself not only as a person but also as his children’s father.
I hope you will follow along with us as we explore together, The 10 Greatest Gifts I Gave My Children. Vannoy is genuine as he shares his parenting experiences. He understands parenting is not one-size-fits-all and talks openly that there is no “magic formula” for parenting. But what he does do is offer parenting tools and suggestions that can alter/change the trajectory of your parenting.
